LOUISVILLE, KY – JULY 2026 In a time when affordability and workers’ rights are powerful issues in this country, ShPIeL Performing Identity announces the premiere performances of INCREDIBLE FINDS, INC. written by Casey J. Adler and directed by Holly Kissel. This production marks ShPIeL’s and Redline Performing Arts’ first-ever producing partnership at the Historic Broadway Theater.

INCREDIBLE FINDS, INC., a powerful new play developed intensively at The Actors Studio Play Development Unit (West) along with ShPIeL’s script incubator, JewFace, in Los Angeles, is about a product distribution center in Kentucky. Drawing on the Jewish and Black roots of social protest and labor rights, this play is inspired by gritty social dramas like Waiting For Lefty by Clifford Odets and Street Scene by Kurt Weill, Langston Hughes, and Elmer Rice.

Adler propels the drama into the present with richly developed characters, a gripping interracial and intercultural narrative, while seamlessly weaving in events from today. As the story unfolds at the distribution center, with its web of bureaucracy and with the disruption of the introduction of advanced AI, the workers are drawn towards collective action to fight against the systems that exploit disparities in power. Facing years of unsafe working conditions and low wages, the workers of the Incredible Finds distribution center reach breaking point after breaking point as their working hours are disrupted by increasingly invasive surveillance, fracturing relationships, and finally an inhumane “advancement” in workplace technology. This story of a Campbellsville, KY community provides a cautionary tale of what can happen when empathy and humanity are removed from the workplace.

The partnership between ShPIeL-Performing Identity and Redline Performing Arts, for this production, is unique and one to celebrate. Both organizations have a mission and strong local history of producing social justice theatre and performance coming from cultural heritage and identity, as well as an emphasis on bringing out diverse voices and their stories, in order to advance the repair of the world. This collaboration has evolved naturally after years of both companies performing in the same theatre spaces and sharing quality theatrical experiences within the Louisville community.
Now with Redline Performing Arts operating at the Historic Broadway Theater, there is a synergistic legacy with ShPIeL, as the theater was designed in 1915 by Joseph and Joseph, one of the few Jewish owned architecture firms in the region. The building’s Beaux-Arts exterior and fine architectural ornamentation into the building are recognized as part of Louisville’s early 20th-century theatre heritage. At that time, this neighborhood on East Broadway was a multicultural mix that was home to Jewish Americans, Black Americans, and immigrant populations from Germany and beyond.

Casey J. Adler, playwright, screenwriter, actor, and comedian is best known for his performances in critically acclaimed shows, “The Upshaws” with Wanda Sykes and as a recurring guest star on Amy Sherman-Palladino’s “Bunheads”. He received the Outstanding Lead Performance award in the Los Angeles Production of “Mix-Mix: The Filipino Adventures of German- Jewish Boy” (Stage Scene LA 2023-24). He has also received awards and honors for his writing, playwriting and screenplays – Piñata, Incredible Finds, Inc., and Birdy; and is a writer in a variety of mediums, specializing in arts & culture, unions, food equity, and human interest stories.

 

 

Holly Kissel, ShPIeL’s Artistic Associate and Director was born and raised in Kentucky, working in Louisville and Southern Indiana as a director and stage manager. Holly has been with ShPIeL for the past three years in various hats, helping to tell Jewish and intersectional stories. After completing stage combat training with the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat, Holly now incorporates safe combat and movement practices to every production of which she is a part, as a fight choreographer and intimacy coordinator. Holly has experience in grant-writing, event planning, and production management. She believes strongly in making the arts accessible to all, especially at local and state levels. Her recent credits include Prayer for the French Republic (Stage Manager, ShPIeL Performing Identity) and Mac Beth (Director/ Producer, Alpha Psi Omega at Bellarmine University). Holly has a BA in Theatre and Business Administration and a Masters in Business Administration from Bellarmine University.
