H*tler’s Tasters

(Scroll down to see promo video, production history and playwright statement)

A dark yet humorous play, H*tler’s Tasters is about the little known historical story of the spirited girls who were chosen to taste Hitler’s food to confirm it was safe. But in an updated contemporary and at times “rock and roll” style, it reveals how fictions and group-think bring about fear, complacency, power grabs, and the loss of freedoms. The outcome, is that at first we think these fictions are about the“other”, but as Martin Niemöller, the Lutheran pastor who at first supported the Nazi actions against the Jews, famously said, “and then they came for me.” Inspired by the true story of Margot Wölk, at 94 years old she revealed her harrowing past as one of the fifteen women chosen for this “honor.”

Written by award-winning playwright Michelle Kholos Brooks, H*tler’s Tasters is directed by Sarah Norris, the Founding Artistic Director of New Light Theater Project and produced by David Y. Chack, Artistic Director of ShPIeL-Performing Identity, New Light Theater and Hallie C. Griffin, Mary Kathryn Kopp, Kaitlin Longoria and Hannah Mae Sturges.
